In my opinion, the best parts of interviews, social posts and chats between friends are the the glimpses into that other person’s world. Inspired by TikTok’s Weekly Report trend, I thought I’d collate what I’ve been enjoying recently. If you enjoy my personal recommendations below, feel free to share it your friends and family, too!
Watching
All Of Us Strangers. (Movie, Apple) This movie will make you want to call your parents. Some really fantastic acting in this film, with stand-out performances Paul Mescal and Claire Foy. This movie is based on a Japanese novel and I think that really shines through, in that fantastical Ghibli/Murakami kind of way. Andrew Scott’s fictional apartment is 10/10 and makes me want to paint my walls.
Architect Breaks Down Why All American Diners Look Like That. (YouTube) Did you know that diners were inspired by train dining cars? This fascinating video dives into the iconic American diner, fusing culture, history and architecture. If I get another cat, I’d like to call it Googie.
Palm Royale. (TV Show, Apple+) A comedy drama starring the inimitable Kirsten Wiig. Not the best show I’ve ever seen but entertaining for a mid-week watch. Thoroughly enjoying Ricky Martin’s newfound acting career.
Eating
Banana Pancakes. On the diner note, pancakes. This recipe is a great alternative to banana bread if you’ve got some battered & bruised fruit to use up, and it needs just five essential ingredients. I made these last weekend with fresh blueberries, maple syrup, icing sugar and more sliced bananas on top. So quick and so good!
Reading
Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan. One of my absolute favourite Irish authors, Keegan’s works are small but mighty. This story follows Bill Furlong, who discovers convent laundries in his small Irish town in 1985.
Recent Reads: Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell. (4/10) Despite this novel’s rave reviews, I sadly didn’t warm to this book. While there were some really beautiful passages on grief and loss, I found getting through it a bit of a slog. Then again, I’m no historical fiction fangirl. Give me sci-fi any day!
Booking
The Biba Story, 1964-1975, at The London Fashion & Textile Museum. The 60s are my favourite fashion era, and Biba is undoubtedly the defining label of this era. This little museum is in the heart of Bermondsey, which is filled with some of London’s best cafés, bars and restaurants, so I’ll likely take myself for some pasta and wine at Flour + Grape afterwards.
Wearing
Maybelline Super Stay Concealer. Has anyone else been watching Katie Jane Hughes on TikTok? She’s so real and entertaining and full of great MUA tips and tricks. She recently reviewed some of the best drug store concealers and this came out as one of her favourites. It’s really lightweight, matte, long-lasting and good for coverage of redness, which is what I was looking for. However, if you prefer a creamy concealer, this is not that.
Coveting
M&S Polka Dot Lace Insert Tea Dress. The perfect RIXO dupe! Ideal for summer weddings. If only it would come back in stock.
adidas SL 72 sneakers in brown & yellow. Since we all need a new shoe after Rishi killed the Samba…I think I’ve found the perfect trainer - the dream colour combination that will go with everything. Basically a more affordable version of the Wales Bonner x adidas trainers.
Thanks for tuning in. If you liked this, consider sharing with a friend!
Til next time,
